Description

On this trip we will see the most famous and interesting sights not only of the Trans-Baikal Territory, but of the whole of Eastern Siberia! Chara Sands - the northernmost desert in the world, the Kodar Range, the ruins of uranium mines in one of the most cruel GULAG camps, BAM peak, the Middle Sakukan River valley and Sakukan waterfalls, the Marble Gorge, the Sleeping Beauty Lake - this is just a small part of what we will see. Well, there will be more than enough romance of hiking weekdays: songs by the evening fire, a technically simple but very picturesque route and a complete immersion in the wild, harsh, but impossibly beautiful northern nature will not leave anyone indifferent, remaining in your memory and photos for a long time.

Itinerary

Day 1. New Chara - Chara - Chara sands

Our tour begins at the railway station of Novaya Chara station, where we arrive by night train Moscow - Tynda and already at 7:30 in the morning we take a regular bus to the village of Chara. It is literally half an hour to drive, so in an hour and a half we will come to the ford across the Sredny Sakukan River, overcoming which we will find ourselves on the famous Charsky sands - mysterious sand dunes in the middle of taiga and swamps.

By lunchtime we will reach a camp on the shore with the affectionate name Alyonushka, where we will set up a camp and have lunch. and then we will go light to explore the sand dunes and photograph this unusual natural phenomenon. We will reach the remains of a helicopter that once perished here in the very heart of this small sandy dust, the size of which is 10 x 15 kilometers, and in the evening we will return to our camp.

Day 2. River Valley Middle Sakukan

In the morning we prepare a hearty camp breakfast, pack up the camp and hit the road. All day we will walk along the Middle Sakukan River, enjoying the views from all sides. We will make a halt near Lake Jack London - the full namesake of the more famous lake of the same name in the Magadan region, to which separate tours are organized, and in the afternoon, in the late afternoon, we will camp in a place we like on the river bank.

Day 3. Weather station

In the morning we will continue our journey and, after walking about ten kilometers, we will reach the house of an abandoned weather station, which will become our home for the next two days. We have lunch, leave our belongings and in the afternoon we make a radial hike to the alpine lake Sleeping Beauty and the glacier of Nina Azarova, under the Bear Pass, from where we can admire the incredible beauty of the Kodar Mountains and the BAM peak (3072 m), named in honor of the first prospectors of the Baikal-Amur Mainline and the highest peak of the Kodar mountain range and the entire Trans-Baikal Territory.

The glacier is named after Nina Azarova & ndash; engineer-geologist of the exploration party of the Forest Expedition, mountaineer, graduate of the Novocherkassk Institute. She died at the top of the eastern pass Svyazka, 2810 meters high, during the exploration of a coal seam for the needs of the village of Mramorny. Tomorrow, during a rational exit to the Marble Gorge, we will visit her grave, but for now we return to our house, where we will spend the night under a roof and without tents.

Day 4. Marble gorge and former uranium mine, grave of Nina Azarova

Today we have a radial hike to the Marble Gorge and an inspection of the former Gulag camp. In the 40s and 50s, the Marble uranium mine operated here, at which there was a camp, the prisoners of which constituted the main labor force of the mine. At the mine, uranium was mined from five adits located at an altitude of about 2300 meters. Now there are no restrictions for visiting this abandoned place, the radiation background does not exceed the permissible norm. We inspect the old adits, the remains of mining equipment. All structures and buildings were mothballed in 1953, but since no one supports the conservation, everything that remains falls apart and is taken away by tourists for souvenirs.

On the way back we will visit the grave of Nina Azarova and Sakukan waterfalls. Overnight stay again in the house of the former weather station.

Day 5. Royal throne

Another radial exit & ndash; to the alpine zone to the Tsarsky Throne tract and to the Snezhny pass. Incredible beauty and severity views of the surrounding mountains and a difficult path. Last night in a roofed house, our journey comes to an end...

Day 6. Weather station - Chara village

Long and quite difficult way from the meteorological station to some place on Middle Sakukan river. We are now returning to the village of Chara, but have not yet reached it, we will stand up as a camp on the bank of the familiar river Sredny Sakukan and, if we are lucky with the weather, we will meet the last sunset in this amazing, harsh, but incredibly beautiful land.

Day 7. Weather station - Chara village

Againg long (about 17 km.) way to the village of Chara.

Day 8. Chara - New Chara

In the morning we have breakfast, set up the camp and walk the remaining kilometers to the village of Chara, where we take a bus and go to the Novaya Chara station. Well, there we say goodbye and take the trains home, each to his own city.
